The holiday hotel Altdorfer Hof in the town of Weingarten with its 26.000 inhabitants is surrounded by sights. Highlights:

As a station on the Baroque road of Upper Swabia, Weingarten can at the same time claim to possess one of its absolute highlights: Germany’s largest Baroque basilica. Situated high upon the Martinsberg it towers over the city and is at the same time its symbol and the entire pride of its inhabitants. It hosts the tombs of the mighty Guelph dynasty, as well as one of the most famous Baroque organs. Together with the Benedictine monastery it forms a magnificent Baroque ensemble that lends the townscape its distinctive appearance.

A further highlight during summertime is the Monastery festival in Weingarten. The Monastery festival in the Upper Swabian Weingarten was revived eleven years ago – today it is an inherent part of the town’s calendar of cultural events and renowned in the whole region and far beyond. It offers theatre of both high quality and great ambition on two open air stages.

The newly opened „Alamannenmuseum“ (Alamanni museum) invites you to join in a fascinating journey through time back to the early Middle Ages.

In the last years Weingarten has been able to gain the reputation of a modern congress and college town - but as a holiday destination it has much to offer also to sportily active visitors, for example its excellent Nordic walking trail consisting of 4 variants and only recently (2008) inaugurated by the “Deutscher Sportbund”, the German Sport’s Association, with a festive ceremony.

Weingarten lies only approx. 30 km away from Lake Constance. Around the lake are situated numerous well-known thermal baths and spa towns like Bad Waldsee or the thermal baths of Meersburg. The swimming pools and water parks in Weingarten are equipped with heated open-air swimming pools, sauna und steam bath and are open all year round for your relaxation (during summertime you can use the open-air pool, in winter there is the indoor pool).
